Young Scottish singer/songwriter Esther O’Connor, who signed her first record contract with music colossus EMI aged 17, is now writing and releasing music under her own steam.

She runs her own record label, the aptly-named Redhead Records, with husband Tim O’Connor, who also accompanies her on stage with his guitar.

Esther’s new album Right Here, despite not having the backing of a major label, has been causing a stir the length and breadth of the country. It has already garnered a score of glowing reviews and surely is a prelude to the meteoric assent that this talented singer seems destined for.

The first single, Lost Innocence, seems to read like a page from O’Connor’s biography. A song about the rise, fall and subsequent resurrection of someone and she had this to say about the song.

“It’s about having a plan for our life and we feel quite comfortable but life doesn’t play by the rules and sometimes the carpet is pulled out from under you and you realize that life’s not like that…but there’s hope in there too.”

Appearing on The Hour with an exclusive performance of this critically claimed track it may be the last time we see Esther O’Connor without an entourage and hordes of fans in tow. The last time we see her without the paparazzi outside and her face on billboard signs.

Lost Innocence is available on digital download, CD and vinyl.
