Errol Michael “Filo” Phillips was born in Trinidad in 1949. Trinidad is known for the calypso, steelband, carnival and it’s multicultural society. For this reason, his music speaks in several genres including Modern/Contemporary Classical music, Jazz, R&B, Rock, Asian Underground, Afro-Caribbean Gospel and World music. His style has been described by one fan as “…easy to listen to…” . He does not read or write music and he cannot play any tonal instrument, but he has a very good ear. He composes and arranges by singing and rehearsing melodies in his mind. The music is then laid out on a manuscript using a “lettered” keyboard. A trained musician then writes the score on a computer. He is a retired physicist . His favorite musicians are Quincy Jones, Ahmad Jamal, Stan Getz and Ray Holman .
