From Tears in Heaven and 65 other releases

“Tears in Heaven” is a ballad written by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings about the pain Clapton felt following the 1991 death of his four-year-old son, Conor, who fell from a 53rd-story window in his mother’s friend’s New York City condominium. By all accounts, the death was simply a tragic accident, and Clapton was distraught for months afterwards. This song is one of Clapton’s most successful, reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the U.S.

It was also used as the theme song to the 1991 film “Rush”.

I have listened to Rock & Roll for the past 35 years. I have never felt and heard a song so clearly as Clapton's "Tears in Heaven". I away I find it terrible personal and a feeling of knowing to much. I think that is why Mr. Clapton made the song. There as never been a Rocker as big as Clapton to write about real lose and real death of an innocent four year old Child. I am also so glad the family did not do the finger pointing, that makes (I think) others and I respect The Clapton family even more. Think back in "93" it was quite a different World. I do not know how much this will mean to Mr. Clapton but, I have respect for the man.

Clapton wrote this about his 4-year-old son Conor, who died when he fell out of a 53rd floor window in the apartment where his mother was staying in New York City. Clapton had one other child at the time: His daughter Ruth was born in 1987, the year after Conor was born. http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1274

To survive such a crushing loss is heroic, but to make beautiful art come from it is even more extraordinary!

I know Clapton wrote this song in honor of his son who passed away, but I also wonder if he is talking about the grief of his loss causing him to contemplate suicide.
