Epica is a symphonic metal band from The Netherlands. The band makes heavy use of keyboards and orchestra akin to symphonic metal, with a combination of mezzo soprano female and male grunt vocals akin to gothic metal. Their music style is mostly influenced from movie scores and in a very similar way to guitarist and group founder Mark Jansen's former band After Forever.

Epica released their second album Consign To Oblivion in April 2005. Their first album, The phantom agony, was released in 2003. They also have an album called The Score: An Epic Journey, released Sept 2005. The Divine Conspiracy is due to be released 7th September 2007.

Epica consists of Simone Simons (vocals), Mark Jansen (guitars, grunts and screams), Ad Sluijter (guitars), Coen Janssen (synths and piano) and Yves Huts (bass guitar). The band is in search of a new drummer.

Mark Jansen founded the band in 2003 after he left After Forever. It was firstly known as Sahara Dust, but when Simone Simons joined the band they quickly renamed after Kamelot's album Epica.

Simone Simons also stars on The Black Halo as Margeruita in The Haunting. This album continues the story about Ariel introduced in Epica.
Khan, in return is featured on the track Trois Vierges from the album Consign to Oblivion.
