There are at least eleven groups, or aliases, by the name of Envy:

1. Since their formation in 1992, Envy has become a dominant band in the independent hardcore and screamo scene in Japan. Their music has evolved over the years to incorporate hardcore, screamo, and most recently, the epic tendencies of post-rock. Envy is characterized by their ability to master screamo’s loud-soft dynamic to evoke both crushing brutality and gentle beauty, often within the same song. Much has been made of vocalist Tetsuya Fukugawa’s own skill at commanding this dichotomy and thusly their live shows have grown in legend over the years. The band is also noted for their deep and poetic lyrics.

The band has become increasingly popular among the post rock scene in the last few years for their incorporation of Mogwai-esque sound and composition dynamics into more traditional screamo songs. This new influence can be most easily identified on their last three releases, “All The Footprints You’ve Ever Left And The Fear Expecting Ahead” released by Dim Mak,”A Dead Sinking Story” released on Level Plane and “Insomniac Doze” released on Temporary Residence Limited.

The band has since become friends with Mogwai and vocalist Tetsuya Fukagawa was featured on a track from Mogwai’s 2006 album “Mr. Beast.”

In March of 2006, it was announced that Envy had signed to Temporary Residence Limited for American distribution of Insomniac Doze (though it was released by Mogwai’s Rock Action label in Europe and Envy’s own Sonzai Records in Japan).

Still far far away from A dead sinking story and Insomniac Doze but at least much better than Recitation.

I'm blown away by Atheist's Cornea. After ploughing through countless uninspired post-whatever albums in recent few years, I've almost forgotten how properly executed music stirs emotions and overwhelms you from beginning to end. It's also been ages since an album already enticed me so much when I wasn't even halfway through.

If you don't think Arche is a masterpiece or close than you have bad taste in music period. Anyway this record is actually okay I just got way too hyped with that album title. I hoped they might move away from the pitchfork shoegaze shit but instead they refined it. I actually have a good opinion of Recitation in spite of it signaling the decline. I'm just bitter they'll never match Insomniac Doze again.

the fact that their new album is way better than Recitation disproves your point entirely. also, i'm struggling not to bring into this the fact that Dir En Grey have never released anything close to a masterpiece...

Envy is dead boys, might as well download Deafheaven and whatever Alcest is churning out these days. I heartily recommend Dir En Grey's latest masterpiece though.

i was hoping there is a riff as creative as 'A breath clad.." from the new album. Maybe I placed my expectation too high? :(

Hate to say it but this one sounds like it was made for the Pitchfork crowd. I was mentally prepared but still upset cause it's hard not hype yourself up for an Envy release. I doubt there will be any masterpieces from here on out. It's possible my opinion could change but I do not like what I hear for the most part.
