    I am lousy at being up to date this year. All blame to should be laid at the feet of Jack Bauer - for season 6 of 24 has occupied my evenings in, where once music would have been entertainment enough, now torture and godamning took over. But all things pass and until Season 4 of the Wire arrives its back to the decks to (briefly perhaps) go through all we have missed...

    Pete & The Pirates have fallen foul of polished production and any pleasant ramshackle indie had been given the studio treatment which means that all the edges of Mr Understanding are smoothed out into MOR indie blandness. If the last single was Pirates of the Caribbean then this one has all the piratical joie de vivre of Titanic. Shame.

    Those Dancing Days ended up in the record bag with Hitten purely because the front cover of the 7" made me chuckle at it's bizarre kind of childish drawings of circus ring master and lion (see image to the right). I was therefore expecting lo-fi DIY shenanigans but I'm now…
