This felt like such a disappointment after the glory that is 'Eld'. I stopped keeping up with their work because of this album.

to me, this is the best Enslaved album. no throwaway riffs, songs are perfect length, anthemic viking choruses, huge drums, I don't think they've topped this yet.

Anyway, this was also the first Enslaved album I got into (somehow -- Mardraum had just come out and I found it a bit too brutal but this album was somehow ok; I think it was the rocken guitar solos) and still remains one of my favorites.

So wait, this album isn't Viking but Mardraum somehow is? Define Viking in Enslaved's context. Neither album has the usual trappings associated with the style and I'd argue that Mardraum deviates even further from the whole "Viking" schtick by being all psychedelic/progressive. Blodhemn at least is more consistent in its lyrical themes (ie. all songs are about Norse mythology and/or Vikings).

My first, and still favorite Enslaved album. There is something about it, that always makes me enjoy it.

I dont see anything wrong with this album the production sounds perfect thanks to Peter Tagtgren and its still as heavy as Frost

You know that "Damned in Black" was released AFTER "Blodhemn", eh dumbass? That was a quite immense fail. It's not the fault of Enslaved that Immortal released an album 2 years after "Blodhemn" which actually sounds like "Blodhemn.

This album it's quite good, but this isn't enslaved, eld was better, mardraum's also weird the lack of long songs and viking stuff. But as a black metal album it's good.

Ah, that's what it is. Their music sounds much too similar to Immortal's Damned in Black on this album. I knew it sounded familiar. But I think it's mostly to do with the production job. Not a bad album at all, and quite aggressive, but given what the band is capable of, it's kind of average for them. I'll probably end up listening to this a few times and selling it. =/

Could be their best with better production values.

I quite like this. It's maybe not the best but it's still a valiant effort.

Garbage from start to finish. Songs are boring, Production is shit, no feeling at all. Even the artwork is bad. No wonder they never went back to Abyss Studios. I still wonder why I own this on CD. At least, the band came back strong with Mardraum and Monumension.
