Biography

Bristol, United Kingdom (2011 – present)

Hailing from the harbour city of Bristol, Empty Pools formed in the halcyon days of fading summer 2011. They artfully combine elements of noise rock with teen dream melodies, late ’70s CBGB’s angularity and the jazzy world-pop sophistication of the Thrill Jockey set. The band have toured and shared stages with Sharon Van Etten, Menomena, Destroyer, White Denim, Other Lives, Memoryhouse and Exitmusic.

‘Vanderbilt Cup’ was self-released in March 2012 and ‘Exploded View’ in June, to favourable reviews from NME, Drowned in Sound and BBC 6Music amongst others. July 30 saw the digital re-release of both tracks by Brooklyn/Bristol label Enclaves.

‘Safety School’/’Absentees’ was released by BATTLE (Frenchkiss Label Group) in October as part of their 7 Inch Vinyl Series, and has been played on BBC Radio 1 and 6Music. Empty Pools release their second BATTLE single ‘Small Talk’ on March 11, and are currently working on their debut album.

Hell of a band. Lot of new EP songs doing the rounds live. Keep an ear out for "Super Legs", "Misty Maureen" and the shimmering arpeggios of "Bacon Don". A real pleasure to hear them tear into a cover of Rod Stewart's 'Sailing' too!

"Vanderbilt Cup" is seriously awesome. I can't wait to hear more of their stuff!
