Emily Sparks is singer/guitarist/keyboard-player Bridget “Jet” Mullen, Guitarists/Multi-instrumentalist Doug Walseth, Keyboard Player Adam Luikart, Bassist Zachary Firnhaber, and Drummer Travis Garaffa. What start out as simple, melodic, and lyrically-focused songs become multi-layered collages of emotion and sound. Straddling the lines between genres like “Power Pop” and “Alt-Country”, the music has been known to find appreciation among unlikely audiences. While playing a show at a punk-rock bar in Detroit as part of a national tour, Mullen was warned about the tendency of its patrons to throw rotten produce and beer bottles at the “quiet bands” who played there. Ever the optimist, she took her fragile songs on stage and not only emerged unslimed and unscathed, but also a few names richer on her mailing list. As producer/sound engineer/musician Dave Auchenback once put it, Emily Sparks is “quiet music for those who like it loud.”
