Have you ever gone through depression? In some cultures, being a woman is not easy. I'm not going to argue with you on her writings, but on your sophomoric depections of all women having an easy happy life. Hmmm: female circumcision, rape victim, not being permitted to have an oppinion. That's as intellectually dense as people I know who hate all Mexicans, blacks, jews, etc.

I don't think this song necessarily tries to say that being pretty is worse than being ugly, more that there's just no winning if you're a woman in a misogynistic society at all. [2]

She's not saying it's worse to be "ugly" than "pretty." She's quoting people. Believe me. "Oh, you're depressed and hate your life? How can that be? YOU'RE SO PRETTY!" It happens. A lot.

I find I just can't listen to this. I can appreciate where she's coming from - it's highlighting a particular brand of misogyny in a slightly humorous way - but I think Emilie Autumn's failed to frame that message in anything other than deeply shallow and pretentious manner. I can no more relate to this than a song about having too much money or the privilege afforded to heterosexuality, because I feel the focus is just placed too heavily on her own attractiveness.
