Biography

Embodyment was a Christian metal band from Arlington, Texas which formed in 1993. They were first known by the name “Supplication”. They commenced as a death metal band and released 3 demos under this style, which later appeared altogether on a full-length independent release entitled “1993-1996”.

Their debut album, “Embrace the Eternal”, showed a change in style as Embodyment moved from death metal to mid-paced grindcore. “Embrace the Eternal” featured re-makes of the songs “Golgotha” and “Religious Infamy”, which were originally from their demos, as well as guest vocals by Bruce Fitzhugh, vocalist for seminal Christian metal band Living Sacrifice.

After the departure of Kris McCaddon on vocals, Embodyment welcomed Sean Corbray as vocalist and recorded “’‘The Narrow Scope of Things’‘”, released in 2000. This album was the band’s first step away from any of the heavier metal subgenres. Instead, their sound on the album was adjusted to alternative metal with hard rock influences and was the first album to feature actual singing and some screamed vocal parts rather than any form of death vocals.

Embodyment next released Hold Your Breath in 2001, an album which saw the removal of all screamed vocals and yet more slight shift away from the remaining metal influence there had been on “The Narrow Scope of Things”. Their last album, “’‘Songs for the Living’‘”, released under [] in 2002, completed the band’s transition to alternative/indie rock and was originally made as an industry demo meant to get the band signed to a major label.

embrace the eternal and their demos are amazing, everything after that is awful... and agreed with this... 'The fuck is "mid-paced grindcore"? Either you grind or you do not, there is no "mid-paced."' 'embrace...' is more akin to deathcore, but way heavier than most, some of the crispiest sounding guitars i've ever heard, and awesome songs.

I generally do enjoy their later material, especially The Narrow Score of Things, but Embrace the Eternal...that was an insane album. I can't help but wonder what they might have produced next if they stayed on that track...I know some of the members formed The Famine, but it's just not the same.

I remember getting Hold Your Breath when it came out. At the time I was disappointed that it was different from the Narrow Scope of Things. But now I have grown to love the album. Great band.

Embrace the Eternal... awesome. maybe a little excessive on the pinch squeals, but as a guitar player myself... they are pretty damn fun. Anyway... I wish it could have stayed that awesome. It kinda went the way of underoath and other kickass christian bands that obviously were popping themselves up for more appeal. better to just keep real and stay as metal as y'all once were. seriously... what's with you christian metal and hardcore bands? putting out that first and sometime second awesome awesome album, but then go all scrEaMO and hanging with under age chicks? lol... its funny to watch.

I love how they did their 180, because they were really good at both styles (contrary to almost any band that switches styles without changing names)
