About This Track

One of Elvis Costellos most overtly political tracks (cf: Shipbuilding), a bitter condemnation of the hypocrisy, greed and bloodlust of Margaret, now Baroness, Thatcher… due a re-release soon, to mark her demise and burial, when Elvis promises to “stand there laughing, and tramp the dirt down”, joined by several million miners, unemployed, gays, socialists and other groups who her government systematically shafted in their grand project to demolish the welfare state and return England to the Victorian age.

We can either stamp it, or do what Frankie Boyle suggested. Give everyone in Scotland a shovel and we'll hand her over to Satan ourselves.

I shall cry, I shall cry tears of joy! For the miners, the steel workers and for the workers in general! For the families she ruined, for the service men she used as pawns for her own gain! Die Maggie please let it be painful!!!!

Don't know why I'm replying to this seeing as it was written about 8 months ago but dac6433: how is it a 'terrible choice for a "victim"? Her government pissed off a lot of people in this country, nothing to do with not wanting "personal responsibility". I don't think the people that protested the poll tax or section 28 were angry because they had to be responsible now. And really, for the Belgrano incident alone, her eventual grave deserves to be turned into a public toilet.

Good song....terrible choice for a "victim"...the punks and new wavers liked to ridicule her, but then again they weren't huge on the whole "personal responsibility" thing. If the state can do it for you...why try!
