This is the one that got me into Costello. I remember hearing a couple tracks from This Year's Model before this and being underwhelmed, but after listening to Imperial Bedroom, I not only loved it, but could suddenly get behind everything he had recorded up to that point.

The one-word print ad tagline for this album, back in '82 was "Masterpiece?". The correct response is "Yes. Yes, it is." :)

I love Elvis' background vocals on this album. Not something he has done very often.

"Imperial Bedroom" was EC's "Sgt. Pepper's." The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. One of those albums that works from start to finish better than as individual tracks (although "Man Out of Time" is a masterpiece).

Briliant, mature record. Amazing at the time, and all these years later. I wish he were still doing things like this.
