“Someone Saved My Life Tonight” is an Elton John song from his album Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy. It concludes side one in the album’s telling of the history of John’s and lyricist Bernie Taupin’s struggles to find careers within the music industry. When released as the album’s only single in 1975, it reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and entered the top 25 on the UK Singles Chart.

Taupin’s lyric refers to a time in 1969, before John was a popular musician, when John was considering marriage to his girlfriend, Linda Woodrow. John and Woodrow were sharing a flat with Taupin on Furlong Road in the East End of London, hence the opening line. While having serious doubts about the looming marriage, John contemplated suicide. He took refuge in his friends, especially Long John Baldry, who convinced John to abandon his plans to marry in order to salvage and maintain his musical career. As a sign of his respect and gratitude for Baldry, Taupin wrote him into the song as the “someone” in the title and as the “Sugar Bear” mentioned in the lyrics.

This song deals with a time in Elton's life when he was going to get married to a woman named Linda Woodrow. In the 1991 Two Rooms tribute project, Elton explained: "I was going to get married once when I was younger, and I went out and got drunk with Long John Baldry and Bernie and John said I shouldn't get married. I knew he was right but I didn't know how to get out of it so, I just got drunk and went home and said I'm not getting married." http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2453

Yeah Dark Tower got a bit sketchy (hehe) towards the end for sure but what a journey it was! I think the crimson king was more of a built up idea than a typical platter served epic foe, I kinda like that it focuses more on the characters than build towards a final confrontation that doesn't resonate with the weird upside down tale you've been on. CK got what he deserved, all he'd been doing was screaming himself hoarse for years lol, i was more pissed at Walter o Dim's end, now THAT was a rogue. It has an interesting conclusion for sure, it is roland's tale after all through and through ;) ALL HAIL PIANO SLINGER ELTON ANYHOO

Dark Tower [11] I'm still in denial over the 'erasure' of the Crimson King... I understand the artistic metaphor but damn, he was supposed to be the arch-foe of the entire megaverse?!?!?!?!? What... killed off in less then 10 pages. Damn golden snitches...

When I think of those east end lights, muggy nights, the curtains drawn in the little room downstairs... Prima donna Lord you really should have been there, sitting like a princess perched in her electric chair.
