All you need is a basement, a red light and a feeling… turntable alchemists Justin and Luke Unabomber have stepped away from the decks and into the studio as Elektrons. Building on the dirty basement ethos of their Manchester club Electric Chair, Elektrons’ forthcoming album is a distillation of the across-the-board phuturistic black music inspirations and dirty, sexy attitude that have always informed their DJ sets and rocked dirty basements all over the world.

Featuring UK mic queen Eska sounding like Missy Elliot doing the Saturday night house show on an East End grime pirate, first single Dirty Basement is both a crunk-house collision of all that’s freshest and most dynamic in music right now and a bold affirmation of their anti-bling warehouse party nightlife aesthetic, a call to arms for the weekend to, as Justin puts it: “let your hair down, feel it, get dirty.”

With their forthcoming album mashing up musical influences past and present with a bold, energetic and totally UK swagger, Elektrons have created the kind of thrillingly unselfconscious mix of underground nous and perfect pop possibilities that hasn’t been seen since the first days of Soul II Soul and Massive Attack. The perfect soundtrack to a hot summer in the Elektri-city.

    Caught them first time in the Bacardi Bar at Isle of Wight festival 2007. Really great vibe and lead singer took his wireless mic outside to coax more people in for their mid afternoon slot. Bought the album on the back of that and a number of nights in London dancing to the Unabombers deck magic.
