Elane is a gothic / dark folk band from Germany fronted by vocalist Joran Elane with occasional backing male vocals.
Since the formation in 2001 the band grew from a solo project to a band with 5 members. The first to join was Skaldir who joined Joran in 2001 and was in the band for two years. In 2002 Katrin was added to the band. And in 2004 Nico joined and Skaldir rejoined after two years of abscence.
Sound: Mainly ethereal supported by ac. guitar, tinwhistle, low whistle, violin and cello. Elane’s sound also includes elements of darkwave and medieval music.
Sounds like: Chandeen, Unto Ashes, Eridu Arcane

I don't say the new album is bad; it's rather that TFoG was great and Lore of Nén was brilliant. And they had their very unique sounds - dark, atmospheric folk that does not fall into boredom after two songs is quite rare nowadays. On TSF they changed to a mix of folk and prog rock, which is nice, but they are by far not the only ones doing this kind of music - for instance, The Emerald Princess could come straight from a Blackmore's Night album.

Anyway "Lore of Nen" still is my favourite Album, for in my opinion its so more calm and dark then "The Silver Falls". Anyway the new album is fantastic in its own way. Always depending on peoples taste and on current mood.

Well, as long as they help anyone to find the music he is going to like, tags are not that bad. For instance, I know that I have some chances to enjoy things tagged as "gothic", "gothic metal" and "symphonic metal", though all of these three tags are highly subjected and disputed. On the other hand, if something is tagged as "jazz", "blues" or "schlager", it is most certainly pointless for me to listen to it. Such tags are far from reliable information, but information nonetheless. By the way, we are not the only people discussing this.

And even all tags together can never show the uniqueness of the music when it comes to consider personal likes/dislikes =) Tags are a common way to put a subjective matter like music into objective borders. well, it becomes a bit pointless if every band is only tagged as itself. two good bands are always different; a tag can always reflect just part of the music. but if trobar de morte, unshine and within temptation's "mother earth" are gothic (which seems to be quite commonly assumed), then why shouldn't (fire-of-glenvore time) elane be?
