Good to see the love for the album in here. I'd probably also be dead if it wasn't for Eels and Electro-Shock Blues in particular.

One of the best albums ever made. Soon, it will be fifteen years old. Where is the album now? Where will it be in 20 years? Who talks about Electro-shock Blues? It's not talked about these days, but it wasn't really in 1998, either. Remember when E toured after recording ESB? Blank people with blank stares staring back at the band, unaware they were seeing the best episode of an artist take place before their very ears. The world tends to forget the beautiful things. This album is entangled in my identity, my life, more than anything else. If I didn't hear ESB as a depressed fifteen year old, I'd be dead. The songs are very much alive, in me... and some of you too. When my life is over, I can look back and say with awe, "I experienced Electro-shock Blues."

See, I think Everett is a great example of an artist that knows how to write about really sad stuff in a very real way, and yet always leaves room for an underlying sense of romance and optimism (which more explicitly surfaces on tracks like Last Stop: This Town, P.S. You Rock my World, Beautiful Freak, etc. - even though they all still also deal with crushingly sad things)

Amazing album, even though it's depressing as hell. P.S. You Rock My World is a perfect closer, though.

I completely forgot how amazing this album is. I haven't listened to it for years, I had associated it with crushing sadness, and bypassed it. I'm going for another listen!

Words cannot express how much I love this album. Shame E has been coasting for a couple of albums now.

The tagssss ? Two of the best songs here have the least plays damnit. Best 'eels' album by some margin. And he did this when he was having a really bad time! Troubled minds produce the best art.
