It leaves no doubt that Edip Akbayram is one of the most important and influential Anadolu Rock artists, with a rock style deeply rooted in Turkish music standards. Akbayram’s music was banned and not allowed to play in the turkish media after the 1980’s Turkish coup d’état because of it’s anti-government and sociocritical structure. Not only Akbayram’s music, but most of the “özgün müsik” was banned in this time; özgün müzik refers to the anadolu rock/pop artists who set the standarts in the turkish society to fight the capitalist and right-winged government that was active in this time.
