Biography

Edgard Albert Portela, Jr. (born April 16th, 1987) is an American singer-songwriter and musician. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he currently resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Portela is also a right-of-center political activist.

Ever since he was a small child, Edgard developed an inclination towards music, fueled by his grandfather. His grandfather, Ricardo Feliu, is director and first requinto player in the world-class Trio Los Cancioneros from Guaynabo, P.R.

In the summer of 2005, Edgard, along with close friends Kate Griffes and Jessica Chase, formed the band Somebody for Someone. Inspired by the creation of the band, (originally called Menage A Trois) he took up guitar classes at Grand Rapids Community College and learned how to play the guitar. He also plays the Irish tin whistle and the piano.

Portela’s music is heavily influenced by artists like The Corrs, Sara Bareilles, Sia, Corinne Bailey Rae, Eva Cassidy and many others.
