About This Track

“Let’s Groove” is a 1981 song from the album Raise! by the R&B act Earth, Wind & Fire . According to the Let’s Groove Songfacts, the song is about losing yourself in the music, which in the hands of Maurice White is a more spiritual message than you might think. The groove can take you to a place of positivity and presence, and you can find it right on the dance floor.

The song peaked at #3 in the U.S. and in the UK. It also spent eight weeks at number one on the Hot Soul Singles chart in late-1981/early-1982 and was the second biggest R&B song of 1982. The music video of “Let’s Groove” was the first video ever to be played on Video Soul on BET.

“Let’s Groove” was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. The single sold over a million copies and it has been certified gold as up until the RIAA lowered the sales levels for certified singles in 1989, a Gold single equaled 1 million units sold.

The song has been sampled in the 1991 single “Skat Strut” by MC Skat Kat and the Stray Mob.The song was covered in 1995 by R&B band CDB in Australia, where it went platinum and went to #1 in New Zealand and also by Marcia Hines.

This is obviously at the most commercial end of EWF's catalogue... and I'd urge everyone to check out their less poppy early '70s stuff. But even with all of the characteristics of an early '80s pop hit, the feel of this one is still unmistakably, undeniably EWF. It's a triumph. **dances like a loon**

"Let's Groove," produced by Earth Wind & Fire's eternal lead man Maurice White, was the last top ten Billboard hit for the group and their second-to-last appearance in the Billboard Top-40. This is also right at the end of their 'classic' period, before they went on an eight-year hiatus. The song is about losing yourself in the music, which in the hands of Maurice White is a more spiritual message than you might think. The groove can take you to a place of positivity and presence, and you can find it right on the dance floor. Allee Willis, who wrote "September" with White, told us that the chorus of that song goes "bada-ya" because White never let a lyric get in the way of a groove. http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=21519
