Biography

Syracuse, United States

Earth Crisis are a Vegan Straight Edge Metalcore band from Syracuse, New York that have recorded and are still performing. They are perhaps best known for their political activism, particularly their views on the environment and animal rights. Earth Crisis were the band responsible for bringing these issues to the forefront of the hardcore scene in the mid-nineties.

Earth Crisis’ chugging riffs and barked declarations served as the mouthpiece of America’s militant vegan straight-edge movement throughout the ’90s, detailing the ideas of animal and human liberation, drug-free living, and personal empowerment through hardcore song. The vegan straight-edge movement spawned activists who took the law into their own hands, burning down fur farms and freeing animals directly. Earth Crisis began as the brainchild of Karl Buechner — who intended to play bass — and his friend DJ Rose. The lineup eventually solidified with Buechner on vocals, Ian “Bulldog” Edwards on bass, guitarist Scott Crouse, drummer Mike Ricardi, and a guitarist named Ben. This lineup began playing around Syracuse, spreading the message of veganism and the drug-free lifestyle previously preached in the hardcore scene by Vegan Reich, Statement, and Raid. Earth Crisis crafted a five-song demo and sent it to the label that had released those bands’ records, Hardline. But with that label on hiatus, they decided to release their first EP through a local friend’s imprint, Conviction.

I'd like Earth Crisis a lot more if groce euros weren't the only ones jocking them nowadays.

"вся эта мода на схе, вся эта мода на зож, как заебали эти рожи, рукава, очки, мороженное. " - это "мода", как ты выразился, продвигалась EC еще тогда, когда тебя в проекте не было

...EC going for an one-hour drone trip in the vein of Sleep's "Dopesmoker" to encapsulate the suffering of sentient life-forms reduced to mere commodities... now, that'd be worthy of my hard-earned dollar.

Holy industrially-bred GMO-cow, their newest efforts are utterly boring run-of-the-mill modern metalcore. these guys should drop their edge a bit to get their creative juices flowing - even the material from the nu metal-tinged era had its moments.

I don't at all subscribe to the "straight edge lifestyle" if you can call it that but yes good music is good music. Define yourself by what you do...not what you don't do.

New album is terrible. They were one of the pioneers of metallic-hardcore, but now sound like one of the metalcore bands that have been trying to mimic them for years. Really dull album. Shame.
