Hines was something of a link between jazz styles. He was in Louis Armstrong's band and he also led the band that Charlie Parker got started with. A fair pianist, too. Try to hear his St Louis Blues - brilliant. Oh yes.

In many ways, Hines was doing for the piano what Louis was doing for the trumpet. Put him against pianists such as Waller and Tatum and you can hear how relatively inventive he was (and this is not to knock the virtuosity of Fats and Art). A genuine pioneer.

One of the pioneering jazz pianists showing off his technique. Nice stuff.

Antes de morir, el escritor argentino Julio Cortázar, ya en su lecho de muerte, pidió como última voluntad escuchar esta canción de Earl Hines
