Well, my time went so quickly
I went lickety-splitly, out to my ol' 55
As I pulled away slowly, feelin' so holy
God, knows I was feelin' alive

I heard this before I knew of Tom Waits version but I love Waits gravely, scratchedy version better. This is fabulous as well~

Both versions are good. The Eagles version sounds exactly like what you would expect their cover to sound like. But you cannot beat the downtrodden way Waits sings it.

I too prefer Tom's original, the one that made into his debut, the Eagles made it better than his early demos, at least, but I still really like the fact the Eagles chose to cover this song. Makes me like them more, even if they didn't make it better.

Tom thinks this version is "antiseptic." I generally like The Eagles, but I got to agree with Tom on this one.

I heard the Tom Waits original after this. I must say I like both, but I generally prefer the songwriter singing.

"With time going quickly, I went lickedy-splitly?" There's a rhyme you don't hear too much these days. :)
