According to the How Long Songfacts, J.D. Souther, who co-wrote some of the Eagles biggest hit songs in the 1970s penned this song. Though the band frequently performed it live in the first half of the 1970s, they did not record it at the time due to Souther’s desire to use it. Souther released it on his first solo album, John David Souther, in 1972.
