Eskimo was started in 1997 as an offshoot from Seattle based electronica band Beyond Within. The plan was to expand on some textures and concepts previously untried in BW. The sound was thicker, more complex and was looking to have a much colder edge with a warmer aura. The concept worked, and “Colder Still” was finished in 1998.
The album was completed with 11 tracks, spanning from down-tempo beats to broken jungleism. A 12 track, “Reshade of Topaz” could not fit to the standard redbook pressing of Audio CD’s and was shelved for a second EP. Many other tracks never made the cut.
1998 the song “Oliptus” was featured on a promotional compilation released by MP3.com as a standout artist. In 1999 again “Oliptus” was featured on the KSM Compilation “Black Planet”. In it’s subsequent remaster and cutdown second release, Oliptus is still featured. “A backhanded slap followed with a compliment” Thank you.
