alright wtf is a dweezil anyway
4 Feb 2012, 1:29am
I have a feeling that Dweezil is doing Zappa Plays Zappa, because he would like to further his father's vision beyond just what exists in the vault. He's immersing himself in it, not just to bring the best music ever made to a younger audience, he is also absorbing and reconstructing what he can of the progression of his father's music, and ideally, one day, he may feel ready to release new music, that is of the same rigor, complexity, intellect, and beauty as his father's. Shit, that's what I'd do if I were in his shoes at least.
11 Jan 2012, 1:58am
Well to be honest I live in his dad's shadow too...
8 Oct 2011, 4:31pm

Wow I got to see some of this summer tour (2011). Sounds like it will be really great!
30 May 2011, 10:41am
@solar_bridge: What are you talking about? He's doing a great thing by introducing his father's music to a whole new generation. I was first introduced to Frank's music by Dweezil and ever since then I've been a fan.
30 Apr 2011, 10:50am
It's kinda sad and pathetic how obsessed with his dad this guy is.
11 Apr 2011, 5:58am
@Mattp772: Say if a conductor would make exclusively and passionately beethovens music for a few years. is that soulless? Dweezil wants more people to know what great music his father made and i for one think he's doing a really good job :) love the zappa plays zappa stuff.
30 Mar 2011, 8:56pm
I always really enjoy seeing him do Zappa Plays Zappa.
20 Mar 2011, 7:19pm
is it me or is Zappa Plays Zappa a really weird thing? kid totally sold himself to his dad's work. kinda soulless if you ask me.
8 Dec 2010, 1:02am
at "Return Of The".. King Kong towards the end there is a passage from Fifty-Fifty. Highly corrupted but still amazing passage.
6 Nov 2010, 4:33pm
He does original material.Visit his page and you'll see. He has solo albums that are not Frank related. It's just Last.fm doesn't have it.
29 Jul 2010, 3:54pm

Mix the irreverence of Mothers of Invention and the dada humor of The Bonzo Dog Band with the psychedelia of 60's! We are "Os Freakadélicos" a brazillian band formed by teenagers with 15 and 17 years old! Listen our music on myspace! www.myspace.com/freakadelicos

I wish he would do some original material and make records of his own. I wouldn't hold FZ over him. His audience was not necessarily FZ fans before all of these ZplaysZ furloughs. It must be a personal agenda. He's still a bad ass. I dig the ZplaysZ dvds. He should can Bozzio...
16 Oct 2009, 10:47am
Actually I like his playing and some arrangements of Zappas songs more than that of his father. Heresy, I know.
29 Sep 2009, 6:25am
To the ones that argue about his lack of impro on FZ's songs, we need to take into account, FZ is his father, and it must be diferent to play your dead father's music than a tribute to another band you like, I've never liked musicians that imitate instead of making their own versions, but nevertheless i don't know if this applys in this case, Respect, for taking his father's art and spreading it to new people, and not triying to be himself the center of attention, that's when most musicians loose the "Artist" bit, well that's my opinion.
16 Sep 2009, 10:34am
yes he does. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7vMgd0_EG0 here you go
18 Aug 2009, 12:28pm
he has his father's voice and that's probably as close as he can get... keep going dweezil, and go with what you know :)
14 Aug 2009, 1:17pm
Gosh! His version of Stairway to Heaven sucks!

@ gakko: so in essence you're slating Dweezil both for not being original, and for not copying Frank? :P
23 Mar 2009, 1:55pm
Watch Zappa Plays Zappa. Excellent adaptation of his father's work, accompanied by some former FZ bandmates, and additional musicians. Dweezil shows that he does have a sense of humor, though not as spectacularly outgoing as his dad. I've been a FZ fan since I was a young tyke, and now I'm a DZ fan, and an old man. BTW, while he does take after his ol' man, in some ways, he is an excellent musician in his own right. "Some people... some people [hah!] like cupcakes exclusively, while myself, I say, there is nothing so exalted on the face of God's gray earth, as that prince of foods: the Muffin!" -- FZ (who else)
20 Mar 2009, 4:17pm
Repeting FZ but with a total lack of improvisation-skills. Oh, he can play the guitar, but shit, he can´t crack a joke, can he? "Does humor belong in music?". Well, it did once upon a time. But if we´re talking about 2009? Eh, ask Dweezil.
