Biography
Dutch Holly is the songwriting/recording partnership of the southwest’s own critically acclaimed indie pop duo, Jen and Tres. We’re all set to release our newest 5-song EP, What Rhymes With You? on Expat Records on October 21, 2010.
Jen and Tres are the inseparable dynamic duo of Dutch Holly. Both found their way to Phoenix, AZ and met one night by sheer coincidence or fate depending on who you ask. Jen’s band, Perspehone’s Picnic, was opening for Tres’ band, Dalmatian Car, in a bar that was open for one night only – that night – and then closed. When Jen finished her set, she pondered aloud from the stage, “Who’s gonna buy me a beer?” “That’d be me” replied Tres. She hasn’t bought a beer since.
Phoenix summers (far too many) came and went, and with them, band after band. Each time, Jen and Tres would rise from the ashes and strike out in another direction. If the last band was a down-tempo electronic band, the next would be indie-post-punk, after that, acoustic folk, then…well, you get the idea. Eventually, Jen and Tres made their exit from the Phoenix music/art scene and retreated to cooler environs in the pines of Northern Arizona where today, they crank out tune after tune free from the confines of genre, scene and band. Today, you are as likely to hear Dutch Holly’s music in an independent film, on a reality TV show, or on another artist’s album as you are in a rock club.
In mid 2010, Dutch Holly signed an international distribution and sync-licensing deal with an innovative new record label, Expat Records. The deal was particularly appealing to Jen and Tres because Expat’s business model bucks the system of traditional record labels and depends largely on self-produced artists.
