Biography

In a land where the Platinum certification requires only 15,000 sales and has but a handful of radio stations, the young New Zealander, was often asked, in reference to his music, “what the fuck is this?”. But his musical tastes did not always stand out so prominently.

The Duke confesses to have barely discovered music before the advent of Greenday’s “American Idiot” album. His passion for music bloomed at this point and has grown rapidly and ever-varied since that time. It was not long before he spent his days meditating to playlists that balanced equally the likes of Primus, the Chemical Brothers, Tom Waits, Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis Wu Tang Clan and Glenn Miller.

In his twenty years the Duke has dabbled in the playing of several instruments: primarily piano, drums, and guitar; but his true affection is reserved for the bass guitar. Since first picking it up five years ago the Duke has scarcely put it down. In fact, the only reason Andre has ever placed his beloved Fender Jazz on the stand is to pursue the creation of music through the digital medium.

Having taken time to learn his craft and studying music at the tertiary level, his first productions were what Andre now describes as ‘pristine garbage’. “I felt like I was focusing so much on the technical aspects of the music - the mixdowns and EQing, and trying so hard to please people, that my work became soulless.”
