On a general level Dream Theater is shit, however this song I liked, possibly because the singer neglected to utter a note [2]

i have to agree with MachineOfaDream on this one, plus i love the fact that the intro contains bits and pieces of all the "songs"/parts to come.

A lot of people bash Dream Theater for being craftsmen and not artists. People say DT just ram non-related solos at you and jerk off to their instruments. However, all of us fans know this is total crap. The Overture here sounds this way for a reason. It's not because DT want to make nice family-friendly arrangements. It's because the song begins about a girl who's living the "perfect" childhood. The band has these artistic visions, and despite them leaning towards metal, they are willing to explore what they feel is right for their ideas like artists would. I would not be so quick to bash a track like this if you want to stick up for Dream Theater as artists.

I have to agree with you. Is this a case of Disney Theater?

The orchestral synths are just way over-the-top cheesy.
