About This Track

“Hollow Years” is the fourth song and the first single from the Dream Theater album Falling into Infinity. The lyrics were written entirely by John Petrucci. An accompanying music video was also released which cost around $100,000. The version on Live At Budokan features an intro solo as well as a new middle solo, considered by many to be among Petrucci’s best.

I prefer both. Studio version has it's own charm. Petrucci's and Jordan's solo at 'budokan' is breathtaking.

It's weird listening to the studio version after being used to the Budokan version.

Stunningly beautiful, especially the Budokan live version. 14 years since it's initial release and still their best ballad, imho.

the way LaBrie pronounces 'you'll understand' in the section before the chorus annoys me slightly (studio version). But I still absolutely love the song!
