Biography

Recording artist for the Moribund and tUMULt labels, the band is comprised of Hildolf alone. Draugar is a vital part of the acclaimed West Coast Black Metal alliance, and appears on a cd documenting this “movement” in US Black Metal entitled “Destroyers from the Western Skies (As Night Devours the Sun)” -released on Killzone records 2005. The sounds Hildolf creates are a kind of a midway point between the most sought after bands from this grouping, namely Leviathan and Xasthur. The songs are often based on repetition and simplistic warlike melodies, with additions of atmospheres that can be quite unusual and even completely at odds. This gives Draugar’s releases a cult and jilted sound that is completely his own.

Hildolf is also a member of the USBM “dream team” band known as Twilight.

I *get* black metal. But this just... isn't that good. Not AWFUL; just not that good. Too many negative elements in the music.

It's always interesting to me how truly great black metal is misunderstood and misjudged by "fans"... Based on the complete idiocy written on this page, it's fair to assume the majority of posters here have never listened to anything more than a 30 sec snippet yet still feel qualified to comment on an artist such as Draugar... FWHG is a buzzing, deep, emotional, black masterpiece... You don't want this or understand this... STAY AWAY FROM IT!!!!

I enjoy draugar and think some of his music is very ent-wrest-ing but it always seens to be lacking something that might make it great. Mediocre, nearly excellent.

Pretty decent, deranged music. Love the chaos. Downside is his vocals are a tad too similar to Wrest's.

He looks like an angry frog. The music...it's decent. It's much better if you imagine this as black metal made by a frog.

Listening to 'From Which Hatred Grows'... Like it so far! Creepy synth sounds, solid guitarwork and vocals that grab you by the balls!

I would not say this sounds just like Leviathan, from the first listen maybe considering they were linked but other than that no, at best closer to Xasthur.
