United States (2001 – present)

Dragonlord, sometimes written as DragonLord (occasionally confused with a Spanish power metal band Dragon Lord due to similarities in names), is a North American band. Dragonlord was formed in 2001 as a side project by Eric Peterson and Steve DiGiorgio of Testament and Steve Smyth of Nevermore. It is a result of Eric Peterson’s interest in darker music, and not being able to do that with Testament he formed Dragonlord. The band is notable for having a unique sound that combines elements of black metal (screeching vocals, keyboards) with some thrash guitar influences. Also the band is among the rare examples of in United States (at least, with a big name for themselves). Lyrical themes vary, either about the rage of a dragon (hence the name), death, war, lost love, Satanic or otherwise anti-religious themes (most common in black metal), or a combination of a few.

DiGiorgio later left the group and was replaced by former Testament bassist Derek Ramirez. Lyle Livingston plays keyboards for the band, and Jon Allen is their drummer.

They have released two CDs, Rapture in 2001 and Black Wings of Destiny in 2005.

There was also a Swedish Heavy/Power Metal band with this name during the end of the 90’s.

This is pretty good to be honest. When I read it was some kind of black metal supergroup I instantly thought I sucked, I'm glad I was very wrong.

DragonLord reminds me of Old Man's Child. Pretty elite symphonic black metal, but underground as fuck, even though it has a member of a known metal band. Today is the first day I decided to try DL out and I like it, especially the second album.

What's with all the black metal talk? Rapture, at least, is pure modern thrash with some superficial aesthetics a la symphonic BM. Adding fantasy themes and keyboards does not black metal make. Not being critical; I love Rapture... but seriously, Dragonlord isn't anywhere near as black metal as a band like Dimmu Borgir, and Dimmu Borgir is barely even black metal to begin with. Can anyone suggest why Dragonlord is black metal? Eric Peterson claiming it's BM doesn't qualify as an answer.

I hope they release a new album, I am kind of bored of the same songs, need more from this band!

Eric Peterson es un genio. Testament se da el lujo de tener un guitarrista que paralelamente toca black metal, y otro que hace lo suyo tocando jazz.

I wonder if there is another band that combines symphonic black metal with thrash metal? Dragonlord is so fuckin' great. I'd love to hear more something like this.

I asked in our local store for a more Brutal Form of Dimmu Borgir. He surely nailed it with this ^^
