Dragonland is a power metal band from Sweden. The group is most notable for basing their two first albums upon the self-produced The Dragonland Chronicles fantasy saga and for the original symphonic/electronic parts by Elias Holmlid. Nightrage’s Marios Iliopoulos and Jimmie Strimell have provided guest appearances on their latest album, Astronomy.

Their release “Starfall” was produced by Tom S. Englund (Vocalist of Evergrey), doing some vocal parts himself.

Since “Starfall” they have changed their sound from being a heavier power metal band to being a more melodic, slightly progressive power metal band.

By the way, I meant Astronomy is weak as a power metal album, I can't speak to it's quality as progressive rock, because I do not listen to that :P I get a good shot of epic energy listening to their first two albums, but Astronomy just doesn't give me that feeling. Battle On the Ivory Plains and Holy War are great, Starfall is alright, Astronomy is pretty weak, with only one song i found enjoyable. Slow progressive rock does not make for better power metal, it makes for slow progressive rock :P

Haha pulled a Unia. Astronomy is not that far removed from Starfall, to my ears. In fact - it seems like a natural successor and improvement over Starfall in nearly every way. Tighter production, more progressive, more variety... idk many will probably disagree but I prefer Astronomy.

I don't think any release of Dragonland - except Starfall which fucking rules - can be compared to Power Metal classics like Ecliptica, Reckoning Night, Winterheart's Guild and of course Silence. On the other hand, Astronomy is far better than both Unia and The Days Of Gray. It's so powerful, catchy, beautiful, artistic, technical and damn innovative. That's what I think anyway....
