The Message (5:04)

Cover of 2001

From 2001 and 3 other releases

The Message is the last song from Dr. Dre’s album 2001, closing out the album. It is dedicated to his deceased brother, Tyree. The lyrics were ghostwritten by rapper Royce da 5’9”. Controversy followed when this information came out, as the subject matter of the song is very personal and it wasn’t even written by Dre.

Even though this was written by Royce, Dre still has the final decision to edit whichever lyrics he likes!

I agree with @projectpat42066 ... Mary J Blige was the right one to do the vocals for this track.

The obligatory one great song on the album that actually shows some personality beyond bragging about how awesome Dr. Dre is.

Lord Finesse did an amazing job making this beat. He even did Suicidal Thoughts which was also a outro.

DONT FORGET MARY J ON THE VOCALS. HE DEFINTLY PICED THE RIGHT ONE TO DO VOCALS. IF YOU WANT TO PAINT A VERY VIVID EMOTIONAL PICTURE NOBODY CAN DO IT BETTER THEN HER.

this song is just beautiful. really refreshing compared to all Dre's overused (but still somewhat enjoyable) gangsta stuff on the album.
