Currently, we know of two musical acts named Dröne. Yes, both of them used the Umlaut on the O.
1) Dröne is a Scottish-based drone doom duo featuring multi-instrumentalist Markus Byth and bassist/drummer Scott MacDonald.
Originally formed in 2005 in Scotland as a solo project of Markus Byth to explore the more Drone and slower aspects of the Godzilla On Demand music.
Although Dröne has operated with various musicians over the years in a studio and live environment it officially became a two piece in November 2013. With the last solo release being "White".
To date, Nadja has released a plethora of various recordings on various formats and through assorted labels including Obskure Sombre Records, Puzzle Records, and Markus Byth's Black Winter Recordings.
2) The other Dröne was an Amsterdam-based rock/noise trio that was operational from somewhere in the late 1990s until 2004).
Originally formed by former Brezhnev front man Wolfling on bass and vocals, Sonic Jan Kaspers (later guitar player in YAWP) or Sonics on guitar and former Nuragha drummer Frits "Johnny Timmermans" v.d. Boogaard (R.I.P.) on drums. Dröne were heavily influenced by bands like Sonic Youth, Helmet, Swans and Cop Shoot Cop, though also firmly rooted in the Amsterdam punkscene.
In 2001, after a brief stint with ex-Groopa and part-time Millions Of Dead Cops drummer Dejan "Poda" Podobnik, Dröne teamed up with drummer "Zwarte Jan" Pouwels, who remained their drummer until the band disbanded in 2004.
