1. Double Helix represents the very best that Florida and the Tampa Bay area has to offer in hip hop music. The crew mixes the traditional elements of acts like the Native Tongues, Gang Starr, and Dilated Peoples with a conscious, soulful vibe that resonates with both the deepest hip hop heads and casual music lovers.

2. Double Helix is also a group of two (hence “double”) guys who discovered a love of making music at high school in Woodstock, CT. Tom Stoup and Will Johnson used Johnson’s father’s studio to create electronica tunes such as “Hamburger Midnight” and “Drance”, inspired by popular DJs from the late 90’s. They held several “raves” for their fellow students, creating all the video and lighting effects themselves. Stoup’s interest began to fade as the adolescent years pushed on, however, and eventually he was only a part of the group to maintain the meaning of its title. Johnson went on to remix some of the group’s favorite beats into background music for rapper “Yotham” and his Ju Jin Kai crew that included “Tommy Dove” and “Eduardo” among others. Popular songs were “Street Life” and “Beef”. Johnson is still pursuing a music career today while Stoup has set his sights on the film world.

3. Double Helix is also a dubstep band from Scotland

DOUBLE HELIX distill dubstep, punk energy and spoken word into a strange brew of near-future dancefloor music.
