Donjay is a music producer and recording artist currently residing in Phoenix, AZ. Originally from the Oakland/San Francisco Bay Area, Donjay got his start as a DJ, spinning classic Hip Hop and Funk/Soul records. He started sampling and making beats soon after, and gradually incorporated more live instrumentation into his production. Although he rarely uses samples anymore, you can sometimes hear that chopped & looped influence in his production style.
On March 22nd, 2011, Donjay released his debut album Synchromism (available on iTunes). It consists of a dozen beat-driven Ambient instrumental tracks with a lounge, Chill-Out feel to them. That isn't the only style of music Donjay creates; but that is sort of the vibe of his first album.
Unless otherwise noted, Donjay plays all instruments: guitar, bass, keyboards, turntables, & percussion. Although he is a fan of MIDI instruments and computer plug-ins, he incorporates many organic and analog elements into his music as well. For instance, he'll generally favor plucking the strings on a real bass guitar over programming bass lines on a keyboard. He uses live hand-claps and percussion instruments to add a human touch to his music; and, because Donjay composes a lot of his music on the guitar, it's rare for one of his tracks not to actually feature him playing guitar.
