Biography
Don Paris Schlotman, the bass player and co-founder of The Sky Captains Of Industry, is a New York multi-instrument musician whose solo recordings span a variety of genres and styles, but could be considered “Cosmic Roots Punktronica” for lack of a better term. In addition to solo shows, he sometimes performs with a backing band whose lineup includes E.W. Harris, Lindsay Dragan, and others. He also plays bass with a variety of NYC musicians including Niall Connolly, E.W. Harris, Casey Black, Adnan Sabir and others.
He grew up in a musical household, but did not start playing and writing seriously until college, both solo acoustic guitar shows and a variety of instruments in bands. In Columbus, OH he was a founding member of silly-punk acoustic band Mistletoe Beltbuckle which later became Jasper Evergreen after going electric. He played bass in The Outhouse Poets, Big Ass Yard Sale, and Heidi Lux, Glare and several other bands. He was the founder of The Unpossibles, a lineup-shifting energetic rock band, and in Cincinnati he sang and played guitar in Cat Like Dog before moving back to New York.
Besides his family, he cites a wide range of influences including David Byrne, Bob Dylan, Mississippi John Hurt, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, David Bowie, the Ramones, the Pixies, Joe Jackson, Devo, the Clash, and many others.
