Biography
There is more than one band called Dominatrix:
1) Dominatrix is an underground feminist band from São Paulo - SP (Brazil)
They have been on the road for 10 years now, and the members are as follow:
Elisa (lead guitar/vocal)
Adriessa (bass)
Josie (guitar)
Debora (drums)
Ex-members:
Isabella: bass/vocals on the early years of the band, and songs like flat earth and no make up tips.
The name of the band comes from a Bratmobile song, called Panik.
2) Dominatrix were a post-punk/electro duo from NYC consisting of Stuart Argabright and Dominique Davalos. Originally part of the scene that gravitated to Mudd Club and Tier 3 in New York,
Dominatrix were influenced by early Hip-Hop, techno pop and electro.
They played at clubs of that moment such as Studio 54, Paradise Garage, The Copa, Limelight and The FunHouse.
Their work can be heard on their classic club single “The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight” from 1984, and the more recent Soul Jazz Records compilation “New York Noise:” (Volume 3) that was produced by Stuart Argabright of Dominatrix.
Sampled by everyone from Carl Cox, DJ Hell, Junior Cartier and Puff Daddy.
First new tracks in 25 years to be released March 17 on Stuart’s new label REC through iTunes.
