The very first concert I ever attended many years ago was sometime when I was still in middle school. My family was living in Potsdam, New York and Bobby McFerrin was performing on the State University campus at the Crane School of Music. The exact year of the concert, I remember not, but I do recall that it was some time after McFerrin's 1988 pop hit "Don't Worry, Be Happy," one of the very few a cappella songs to actually chart on top 40 radio. This song was noticeably absent from McFerrin's set for the concert my family attended.

I don't know what possessed my mother to bring myself and my two younger brothers to see this particular show, but I remember being impressed by the performance. True, "Don't Worry, Be Happy" - the only song my pre-teen ears would have recognised wasn't performed, but McFerrin's decision to dive into his classical and jazz work certainly left a positive impression upon this young listener.

I'm alone in the house, the other occupants being away on holiday in sunny and scenic Montenegro. Good on them, but where does that leave me? Alone, in a big house, All by Myself. More Green Day than Harry Nilsson (fortunately), so I'm okay.

One of the things with which I've been passing my copious time has been the Playstation2 game We ♥ Katamari (the sequel to this).

What's that? You can't tell what's going on just from the picture? Pffft.
Well, explaining the game's faintly insane concept in a succinct way is more than I can handle, so here's that Wiki entry: are achieved by rolling a magical, highly adhesive ball called a katamari around various locations, collecting increasingly larger objects, ranging from thumbtacks to schoolchildren to mountains, until the ball has grown large enough to become a star.
Yeah, I know. The Japanese are craaaaazy.
"But Karl Ruben," I hear you say, "isn't this journal supposed to be all about music?" Patience…

Go to the music player of your choice and put it on shuffle. Say the following questions aloud and press play. Use the song titles as your answers. NO CHEATING!

1 - How does the world see me?
    Song: In the beginning
    Artist: The Earlies
Comments: Yes that's right, before me there was nothing.

    2 - Will I have a happy life?
Song: God put a smile upon your face
    Artist: Coldplay
Comments: Too bad I don't believe in God...

3 - What do my friends really think of me?
    Song: I've been here before
    Artist: Lush
Comments: I guess I'm nothing new... *tear*

4 - Do people secretly lust after me?
    Song: Black plastic
    Artist: Ladytron
Comments: Apparently only if I dress like Missy Elliott.

5 - How can I make myself happy?
    Song: Go mental
    Artist: Ramones
Comments: That's easy. Consider it done!

6 - What should I do with my life?
    Song: Good fucking bye
    Artist: Matt Skiba
    Comments: Fuck you! You leave!

7 - Why should life be full of so much pain?
