But then again, Nuclear Blast seems to be a bunch of assholes anyway. They've always been good at rooting out some of the best metal bands throughout all genres since the early 90's, but then they really just milk the cow as long as they can and dumps the corpse when finished off. In fact, Dismember themselves had a lot to say about NB and this very matter. How NB wanted Dismember to push into Entombed's death 'n' roll sound on the Massive... album, and then how they did this album as sort of a "comeback" for themselves as well as the fans. Apparently NB's way of handling business, tour support etc. made this tour a living hell for the band, thus Robert and Rickard splitting and the rest of the band taking a break after this album cycle. Then Dismember went on to return with "Hate Campaign", directed at NB, which was cool in spirit, but musically the weakest of their albums imo.
This album was supposedly "remastered" around 2005 together with most of Dismember's other albums at the time, but if I recall correctly this album sounds just the same, only with a slightly increased (!) compressed dynamic range. It had the Misanthropic EP as bonus which of course is real nice, but that doesn't really justify the fact that they took an already shitty-sounding album and made it sound slightly shittier.
and yes the production is absolutely atrocious on this album. sometimes it doesn't hold up to consecutive repeat listens because of that. i wish there could be a remastered reissue like those earache reissues, but nuclear blast does not reissue their 90s albums.
Solid material, but I never could get quite into this one because of the shitty production ... It's nothing but distortion all over, the drums lack both power and weight (= it doesn't sound heavy, it sounds thin / flat.)
