Disco Daddy & Captain Rapp were the west coast's first hip-hop and rap duo. They released the first west coast rap recording, 1981's The Gigolo Rapp, under the brand new Rappers Rapp Disco Co.. They would continue to collaborate through the 1980s and release solo material as well (see Captain Rapp and Disco Daddy), but the duo continued to tour together as part of an at-risk youth organization devoted to keeping children in school. They also continued to promote and produce hip hop acts throughout the 80s. They are the most pivotal and important old school west coast hip-hop act, even if artists such as The Egyptian Lover and Ice T had more commercial success.
