Very nice band. Getting into them now... Sultans of Swing live is orgasmic. Knopfler makes the solos seem so easy lol

I'm 19 and I probably listen to more Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler than is healthy. In fact, I'd say my lifestyle is based around a healthy diet of Knopfler riffs :p

I'm 18, and I tried them, but I don't like them. So perhaps some young people just don't like them...

  • OhYesByAllMeans

I dislike Money for Nothing and Walk of Life, but I like Sultans of Swing and Brothers in Arms very much.

while young people can like good old music like Dire Straits, bombadil seems right. young people these days aren't shown this stuff. i found out about Dire Straits from my dad when I was like 15.

    I'm 16, i like Dire Straits

i agree with omeka. Big bands of the 80's are underrated because they are 20 years old!! Young people today listen to other things, that's a fact. If nobody shows them, it is hard to find such a band like dire straits, not even like..

They chose the worst part of the song to sample Money for Nothing.

Brothers in Arms (the cd) is still the second most sold foreign album in Finland. Dire Straits isn't so underrated but it is so long time ago when they got broken so it has been forgotten. Even my mum knows the band was very big thing when Brothers in Arms came out. Nowadays there aren't many ways for young people to find the band so it looks like the band is underrated. Just for dougydarkangel :P

The way Mark playing guitar is so cool! Brothers in Arms is like an Epic...

Basel is really good. Last week I found by Accident the DVD Autumn in Nimes. Didn't know that exists. Fantastic Versions of Telegraph Road, Sultans of Swing, Solid Rock and Private Investigations.

  • shef_dave

Where abouts was that recorded? I've got a bootleg called Live in Basle which was probably recorded at that time as it has songs from On Every Street on. And it's a briliant live recording, best I've heard.

Telegraph Road sends shivers down my spine, especially the version on Alchemy. Also, Romeo and Juliet on On The Night when the crowd recognises the song after the long instrumental intro.
