Diego Galaz

Diego Galaz is an atypical violinist. His sound is unique and personal, and his understanding of the instrument represents a new school of thought which was previously inexistent in Spain.

He is a member of the legendary music band La Musgaña with which he has played in over twenty countries, a violinist in Nacho Mastretta’s orchestra, and is the founder of bands like ZOOBAZAR, “La apasionante música de cine” together with Luis Delgado and Cuco Pérez, Bailes Vespertinos and Fetén Fetén.

He has played with the likes of Kroke, Márta Sebestyén, Alasdair Fraser, Kepa Junkera, Jorge Drexler, Cormac Breatnach and Pasión Vega, among others.

He shares his time as an interpreter with his job as a teacher at two of the Fiddle Camps directed by the renowned violinist Alasdair Fraser: the Sierra fiddle camp in California and the Crisol de cuerda fiddle camp in Spain, in addition to teaching courses and seminars in different music schools, such as the Escuela de Música Creativa in Madrid or the Aula de Música Tradicional i Popular in Barcelona.

Diego has also composed music for soundtracks such as El otro lado de la calle by Lino Varela and for dance performances. His compositions can also be heard in museums like the Museo de la Trashumancia or the Museo de los Castros Celtas in Soria.

Diego Galaz is the artistic director and creator of the Festival de Intérpretes e Instrumentos Insólitos which is celebrated in Burgos, and is the only one of its kind in Spain.

He is passionate about playing trumpet violin (aka Stroh violin) and in the morning.
