Berlin, Germany (1982 – 1988, 1993 – present)

Die Ärzte (pronounced DEE AIR-TS-teh, German for “The Doctors” or “The Physicians”) are a band from Berlin, Germany. Die Ärzte are one of the best-known bands and have released over 20 albums. The band consists of guitarist Farin Urlaub, drummer Bela B. and bass player Rodrigo González. All three write and sing.

Die Ärzte were formed in 1982 by Jan Vetter (alias Farin Urlaub), Dirk Felsenheimer (alias Bela B.) and bassist Hans Runge (alias Sahnie). Bela and Farin had previously played together in the band Soilent Grün; after that band broke up they decided to form a band playing fun songs, in contrast to the mostly political bands of the punk scene at that time. While deriving from that punk scene, their early music was heavily influenced by and , especially The Beatles, whom Farin heard a lot as a child due to his mother playing their records.

In the first two years they mostly played in clubs of their hometown of Berlin. Their first release was a contribution to the sampler “20 schäumende Stimmungshits” (roughly, “20 exuberant mood hits”), which contained a strong alcohol theme. In 1983 they won a rock contest in Berlin; with the prize money they recorded their debut EP “Uns gehts prima” (“We’re doing great”). Finally Columbia Records signed them, and they released their first LP “Debil” in 1984 and the second one (“Im Schatten Der Ärzte”) a year later.

    Konzert besuchen, und genießen! Erstes Live-Konzert in meiner Karriere. Obwohl ich eher Marylin Manson ähnlicher sah als einem der Bandmitglieder trotzdem großer Fan schon damals... ;)

    Tja, irgendwie hat ja auch jeder das Recht auf seine eigene Meinung in einer Demokratie, wieso sollte man also die NPD verbieten, Frei.Wild sperren oder was auch immer? Was langsam aber richtig nervig wird, ist die ständige Verblödung des Volkes durch die Medien. Statt gegen die NPD zu protestieren, mal lieber darüber nachdenken, wie mitläuferisch und naiv man selber ist, wie oft man über irgendwelche Ausländer lästert und wie unhöflich und egoistisch man sich gegenüber anderen verhält... Ja, die Nazis sind genau das, aber viele von euch sind nicht (viel) besser.

    Naja, "Schrei nach Liebe" ist ja offensichtlich gegen Nazis gerichtet. Und wenn man dann statt Störkraft (nicht Böhse Onkelz, oder doch?) Frei.Wild singt, ist es ja klar, dass sie Frei.Wild als Nazis sehen. Gibt echt genug Nazi-Bands, aber vergleich mal Absurd oder Landser mit Frei.Wild... das sind keine Nazis, glaub mir ^^

    Das ist "Nennt es Zufall, nennt es Plan", worin es auch genau um diese Vorwürfe geht. Darin setzen sie sich dann zwar in der 2. Strophe auch von der Nazi-Ideologie ab, relativieren ihre Vergangenheit dann allerdings wenn sie meinen, dass alle anderen noch mehr Dreck am Stecken haben. Naja, ich kenn mich auch nicht wirklich aus mit Frei.Wild selbst. Zumindest stoßen sie aber in Neonazi-Kreisen auf viel Gegenliebe. Im Kontext von "Schrei nach Liebe" Onkels durch Frei.Wild zu ersetzen macht vor dem Hintergrund dann schon Sinn. Wenn die Ärzte sagen würden Frei.Wild = Nazis, dann wäre das was anderes. Aber das haben sie auch nicht gemacht, oder?
