I'm Coming Out (5:22)

Cover of Diana

From Diana and 174 other releases

This song was inspired by the many drag queens who dressed as Ross at nightclubs.

Chic songwriters Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards wrote this song, as well as all of the other songs on the “Diana” album, and play bass and guitar on this track, respectively.

If you think gays using this takes something away, that something was in your head. It is still the same song, you changed.

I don't think it's a case of any 'original meaning' having been hijacked - it was always intended to have that gay anthem/personal affirmation double meaning. That's a very Chic thing. Just listen to Nile Rodgers' many interviews on the subject.

Haven't heard this for ages. It is a pity that it has become a gay anthem. As Ihero55 said its use by the gay community has destroyed the original meaning of the song.
