The three guys in Det Magiske Blå Orkesteret (The Magical Blue Orchestra in English) all hail from Bodø, a town situated way up north on the west coast of Norway. They met a cold winter's day in 2004 while attending an art program at a local hotel and decided to get together to play some tunes. The group disbanded in 2005.
Their music was warm, joyful and poignant, but it was also advanced, making use of metric time signatures and angular rhythmic keyboard structures. Their sound was mostly known for the extensive use of the marimba and other percussion, although the vocals of Finansrådgiver - their lead singer who also has a solo career - tended to get credited the most. All the songs were played in the key of F# major.
Finansrådgiver (Andreas Larsstuvold) - Lead vocals, keyboards and percussion
The Knuckleduster (Ivar Leifsson) - Drums and percussion
Kool-Aide (Kristoffer Unstad) - Effects, filtering, soundscapes, guitars and percussion
