Despised Icon is a deathcore band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The band was formed by members of Neuraxis, In Dying Days and Heaven’s Cry, in January 2002.
The band is noted for the use of two full-time vocalists, Alexandre Erian, (Also one of the members of the rap group Crimson Syndicate) who sings using a mid-range yelling/shouting technique, and Steve Marois for the extremely low growls, high pitched screams, and “pig squeals”. Despised Icon is known for its work in the underground music industry, having been met with both critical acclaim and appraisal for its efforts in deathcore music. They can also be cited as one of the first deathcore bands, starting out in 2002.

Everywhere I read about Despised Icon and The Red Chord it states something like "one of the originators of deathcore" which makes me think, if all deathcore bands sounded more along these lines, either the brutal kind of Despised Icon or the chaotic kind of The Red Chord, I think deathcore would a far less hated genre. Worth mentioning is I've only listened to the first Despised Icon record.
