Blues for Wingus (3:17)
From Tribute to the Fallen
A track composed by the Desert Island Dicks in memory of their late friend Ingus Lovecharts (“Wingus”), taken from this world in the year of our Lord 2009, upon the day of April 20th, a Monday, for reasons still never disclosed.
Recquiescat in pace, cāre homō sonitūs.
Wingus never fully realised a classical career because, as he said in his autobiography, “[last.fm] got in the way”. Musically experimental and politically outspoken, Wingus became a controversial figure.
“We love you and we miss you”, wrote a child on a scrap of paper left on the railings here; “be happy”, wrote another, “in death”. One simple rose down there bears the message we all echo in our hearts today: “may you rest… in peace”.
“i don’t take much comfort in the thought of heaven where everyone is perfect. i have my own doubts about eternal life. i’m sure i’m not alone. it just seems too… easy, too convenient. Suspiciously like all those incentives for good behaviour we heard about when we were kids. good person, stay out of trouble, and good things will happen to you, and you’ll have a happy life. But that’s not always true. Sometimes justice isn’t served. Sometimes bad things happen to good people…”
“… we all want to be believe that after we die, life goes on and we don’t just fade into oblivion, but i don’t know…”
“everyone says won’t be forgotten because he lives inside all of our hearts but i just don’t know…”
“then one day they came and they took me. and i could say nothing because i was as guilty as they were, for not speaking out and saying that all men have a right to freedom…”
