About this album

Playing the Angel is the eleventh full-length album by Depeche Mode and was released 17 October 2005. It was supported by the Touring the Angel tour. The album has been called a more organic record for using more analog synths than digital ones. In addition, most of the soundscapes presented are harsher and groovier than the more mellow Exciter.

The album is the first of Depeche Mode’s to feature Dave Gahan as co-writer: three of the tracks (Suffer Well, I Want It All and Nothing’s Impossible) had their lyrics written by the singer, while Christian Eigner and Andrew Phillpott wrote the music on these.

I have copy protected cd of this album, and even when I tried my hardest could not remove some artifacts and clicks when I ripped. I used many methods and I just could remove some of them using EAC. Does anyone know how to remove all of them?? When I want to listen to this I have to play it on my CD player and just two songs are included in "The best of" compilation. I really love this album and I hate I can't enjoy it properly in my computer and my cell phone.

Very beautiful, dark and melancholic. This is the darkest record they've made I think. <3

The vinyl brings out the emotion through the dynamics, so after hearing that, I can say this is easily among Depeche Mode's best work. So dark, haunting and has some of their heaviest moments. Simply gorgeous...

The best of their most recent albums. Mastered WAY TOO FUCKING LOUD, but that's the way they do things these days. I've been in love with Precious since this came out.

Pretty much their best album without Alan (tied with Ultra), each song is great with amazing atmosphere, lyrics and melodies. Suffer Well, Precious, I want it all, Nothing's Impossible and Damaged People are masterpieces

This is the best album in the world, if you ask me. I could listen to it forever! I love EVERY SINGLE SONG on it, and that happens never to me. I can't even describe how deeply it touches my emotions... the outstanding lyrics, so many layers in music, emotion... masterpiece!!

I like a fair few songs on this album, Lilian, Precious, John the revelator, but there also to many bleeps. The mastering on the CD is so bad I had to bring it back (the only CD I ever did that). The CopyControl absolutely freaked out my NAD set. It sounded better through the computer Cd-drive.........
